For the first time ever, zero-carbon sources made up over 40% of the global electricity generated in 2023
The global clean energy transition is making record-breaking progress — and is projected to contindue doing so. New reports showed that zero-carbon sources made up over 40% of electricity generated globally last year.
In 2023, hydroelectric power made up 14.7%, wind and solar made up a new record high of 13.9%, and nuclear made up 9.4%. The reports also found that wind and solar made up 91% of net new power capacity additions in 2023 — a significant increase over 83% in 2022.
Importantly, new fossil fuel projects made up just 6% of new capacity — the lowest amount ever.
The first carbon-positive hotel in the U.S. is opening later this month in downtown Denver — and poetically, it sits on the same land where the state’s first gas station was permitted.
A technique called “wood vaulting” could both help prevent greenhouse-warming gases from entering the atmosphere — and eliminate fuel for wildfires.

Sleep soundly & wake up refreshed with American Blossom Linens
We all want crisp, cool, and hotel-quality sheets, right? American Blossom Linens makes some we can all feel good about.
With cotton and wool grown, spun, woven, and finished at family-owned farms and mills in operation for over 125 years, American Blossom Linens takes great pride in its line of totally American-made products. Why is that so important? Instead of your sheets, towels, blankets, and pillows taking an 8,000-mile round trip on a cargo ship, your new home staples are much easier on the planet and are intentionally made in Thomaston, Georgia.
In fact, American Blossom Linens is so confident that you’ll love their 100% American cotton and wool linens that they offer a 2-year return policy; if you are unsatisfied for any reason, you can return them within two years for a full refund.

Take action to reduce suicide during Suicide Prevention Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month, an important awareness event that’s been recognized for more than a decade, as mental health activists and practitioners across the country work to reduce the prevalence of suicide and provide support to those who struggle.
With events, screenings, activities, and more, this month is a time for us to learn more, seek help, offer support, and open our hearts and minds to vulnerable conversations.
Here are some ways we can all better educate ourselves, support the people in our lives, and take action to reduce suicide rates on a massive scale — this month, and beyond.
Learn about effective ways to reduce suicide. Suicide is a culmination of a number of nuanced factors, and preventing suicide includes loads of different people and institutions. Some key ways of preventing suicide are enacting stronger gun safety laws, improving access to healthcare, and creating a world that is safer and more accepting of LGBTQ+ youth.
Learn how to help someone struggling with suicide. If someone shares their suicidal thoughts with you, you may feel pressure to respond “correctly,” but remember: the fact that they shared this with you is a positive thing, and you now have the opportunity to help. We put together a guide to help you preemptively learn how to provide support.
Sign up to volunteer with a crisis hotline or text line. It’s incredibly valuable and important for people to have somewhere safe and accessible to turn to when they’re experiencing a crisis. Crisis centers offer training and support, and many volunteer positions can be done remotely at times convenient for you.
We’re excited to announce the newest issue of the Goodnewspaper: The Courage Edition!
The most courageous people we know have one simple thing in common: they come face-to-face with adversity, and instead of turning away, they forge ahead. That’s courage: The conscious choice to face adversity despite fear, uncertainty, and vulnerability. To show up scared.
In this issue of the Goodnewspaper, you’ll be inspired by how each of us contains the same ability to be scared and strong all at once.
One of my favorite stories in the newest Goodnewspaper features Brad Montague’s invitation to actually celebrate our biggest failures. (It takes courage to try!)
What’s something you've always wanted to try, but are worried you'd fail?
